This whole grain rice is naturally black. It gets its colour from anthocyanins, which are powerful antioxidants. Its distinctive aroma of hazelnut and spices makes it the perfect side dish for vegetables, fish and seafood. Also delicious in salads.
Black rice originated in China and was introduced in Italy in the Middle Ages. However, because it is rare and difficult to grow, it was always reserved exclusively for the emperor’s refined palate and his court.
